July 7-13 / Granby, Canada / $50,000 Challenger
Todd spend the 4th of July weekend in Canada, playing quali at the $50,000 Challenger in Granby. Todd played the 5th seed, IM Kye Tae, in the first round and lost in straight sets. The young man from Korea has been playing on the ATP tour since 2001 and his best ranking was 223 (right now he is in the 500s).
This is Todd’s 1st year on the ATP tour (Full time) and each match is a new experience that will help him in the future. So far his progress is impressive. In January he was ranked 1484 and now he is 624 (in only 6 months).

July 7-13 / Winetka, IL / $50,000 Challenger
Todd received a wild card for the Winetka $50,000 Challenger (Qualifying Draw). He used his chances and won two rounds.
Todd lost in the final qualifying round to Phillip Simmonds in straight sets. Phillip is a solid and experienced player (he played on a tour since 2002 / his best singles ranking was 219). He qualified to the main draw where he lost in a three setter against Scoville Jenkins ATP #198.
Todd collected valuable points at this event which should be reflected in his ranking in about 2 weeks. The next tourny is Granby, Canada (Challenger).

After the success in Yuba City, Todd returned back to Stamford, CT. He took a couple of days off and now he is preparing for the next tourney’s. The tournament schedule will be updated soon.

Todd played his 1st Challenger this year in Carson, CA. It was a tough tourney but Todd managed to win a round in the qualifying and pick up some points for his ranking. It was a good warm up for Yuba City…

What is a Challenger? Some of you may wonder what’s the difference between a “Future” and a “Challenger”. Todd played mostly “Futures” at the beginning of the year. His first “Challenger” is going to be in Carson, CA and Yuba City, CA. Below is a quick description of “Futures” and “Challengers”
FUTURES:
Futures Tournaments are single week tournaments that offer either $10,000 or $15,000 each in prize money. They must be scheduled with a minimum total of $30,000 in prize money, so either three consecutive weeks of $10,000 each in prize money or two consecutive weeks of $15,000 each in prize money.
CHALLENGERS:
The Challenger circuit is the springboard to fame for the future stars of professional tennis. Almost every current top player had his first success at the Challenger level. Sampras, Rios, Rafter and Kuerten, to name a few, have all won Challengers before going to the top of men’s professional tennis. Challenger events range in prize money from $25,000 to $125,000.

May 5-11 / Orange Park, FL / US F 10 / $10,000
Todd started the tournament well with a great win against Lance Vodicka (USA) ATP #735 in the first round of main draw. After that, he had a tough second round and lost to Clinton Thompson ATP#503 (AUS) in straight sets. In doubles, Todd teamed up with Stephen Bass and the two former NCAA stars made it to the semifinals. Congrats Todd and Stephen!
